The Importance of double cleansing in your skincare routine ft Dermalogica’s Double Cleanse Duo

Hello bee’s, I hope you find yourself well. I’m sorry it’s been a little while since my last blog post. I’ve found myself so low on energy lately and have had to save it for other tasks. I’m back today with a skincare post, something that’s very important to me is taking care of my skin. I had acne as a teenager and made it my personal mission to get clear skin so love to share products that work for me!

Like pretty much the rest of the population when we were younger, our skincare consisted of a makeup wipe or ten, to get rid of my maybelline Dream matte mouse (if you know, you know). Fast forward a few years and the very thought of using a makeup wipe makes my skin itch. If that’s you then you are my target audience. Do you find that no matter how many wipes you use, there is still lingering makeup on your face? That’s because makeup wipes are not enough to break up left over makeup, so minute amounts of foundation, concealer and powder are still left on your face to clog up your pores overnight. Plus they dry out your skin and are needless waste for the environment.

Now to the important bit, the double cleansing. This is as simple as the name suggests. You cleanse your skin twice before doing the rest of your skincare. Starting with the first cleanse, this breaks down any makeup, removes dirt and excess oils from your skin. My all time favourite to remove my makeup with is the Dermalogica Precleanse which is on the pricey side coming in at £39 but it’s the best I’ve used so far. This has a thin oil consistency and literally melts all traces of makeup off the skin, whilst making it super soft without blocking my pores. I like to use by applying the oil onto my full face of makeup and massaging in, then I take a damp washable makeup cloth to remove.

Time for the second cleanse, this will address any skin issues you have, such as dry, oily, spot prone, mature skin dependant on the cleanser that you choose to use. This is the step that will actually penetrate the product into your makeup free skin. I’ve recently been testing out the Dermalogica Active Clearing Skinwash as it’s came in a set when I restocked my Precleanse. This has a gel texture and a medicinal scent which can be expected for a cleanser that has claims to heal and clear blemishes. I use this by applying a pea sized amount onto a wet face and massaging in, this lathers well and a little goes a long way. I then take a electric face brush and really get deep into my skin, before washing off. I’ve been loving how clean my skin looks and feels after I’ve used this and have definitely noticed that my pores are looking smaller and a few spots from some stress I’ve been under are drying up quite quickly!

It’s important to remember that you’re putting your skin through a deeper clean when doing a double cleanse, expect some purging to happen if you haven’t done it before. You’re inviting all the nasties to come to the surface of your skin. Your skin will get worse before it gets better! It’s also important to use a Moisturizer that suits your skin type to put back some hydration into the skin that cleansing might have stripped. If you’re interested in buying these products in a set I’ll put the link here . I’ve used a discounted site which is where I get all my Dermalogica goodies!
